Bungeishunju magazine was founded in 1923 by author Kikuchi Kan, and after the Pacific War, it grew into a “national magazine” under the direction of legendary editor-in-chief Ikeshima Shinpei. As a company, Bungeishunju has steadily expanded its business from magazines to books, paperbacks, and new books, and has established a solid presence in the publishing world as a truly unique publisher. With the company’s 100th anniversary approaching, even in today’s world where the stage for expression has expanded from print to digital, the founder’s spirit of wanting to speak with a “free spirit” remains in Bungeishunju’s DNA.
